The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
