The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
