The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He looked (at others); 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
