The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
