The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
