The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
