The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
