The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
