The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
