The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
