The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
