The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
