The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
