The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise, and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
