The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
