The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
