The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
