The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
