The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
