The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
