The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
