The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
