The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
