The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
