The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
