The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
