The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
