The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
