The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
