The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
