The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
