The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
