The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
