The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
