The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
