The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
