The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
