The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
