The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
