The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
