The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
