The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 purify your garments; 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
