The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
