The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches the skin; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
