The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
