The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
