The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
