The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
