The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
