The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
