The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
